Character Information
Character Name: Ion
Fandom: Tales of the Abyss
Character History: Ion was created through fomicry as the last of seven replicas made in hopes that one would be able to replace the original Fon Master Ion, who was very ill and soon to die...as the Score had said he would die at age twelve. As the closest in overall abilities to the original, and despite the frailty of his body from being a replica and the Fon Master's failing health, he inherited the name Ion and was chosen to be his replacement with the original's death only known by a select few within the Order of Lorelei.
As he had none of the original's memories, his life beginning the day he was created, it can be assumed that the earliest part of his life was spent educating him enough that he could be a passable substitute for Ion. This would involve a lot of the knowledge granted to higher ranking members of the Order and the existence of Yulia City and their beliefs, as well as historical knowledge from the Order and about its founding. He also learned about the Fon Master's abilities and Daathic fonic artes, Daathic Seals and other knowledge exclusive to the Fon Master...though he wasn't taught everything so that he could only do so much.
Among the things he didn't do was reading the Closed Score, which he later thinks would have affected his decisions and let him know who Luke was during their first meeting. He also would have had to learn the basics of living as a human being in general in this short time.
During this time he was also assigned Anise Tatlin as his Fon Master Guardian and constant companion in place of the original's guardian, Arietta...though he was unaware that Anise was there for another purpose as well. Still as his guardian and constant companion, she became the most important person in his life and is very special to him...even when being overprotective and doting. He has absolute faith in her abilities and just as a person, and he considers her a cherished friend.
As time passed, he learned that Grand Maestro Mohs was trying to start a war between Malkuth and Kimlasca, and he began to try to form a reformist faction within the Order to oppose him and keep the peace...also opposing the belief the Score needed to be blindly followed and should instead be only a tool for guidance. This was without knowing that the war was foretold in Yulia's Score however.
Shortly before the game begins, Ion obtains the aid of Malkuth to escape captivity and is then asked by Malkuth to act as a go-between for peace between Malkuth and Kimlasca. On the way to Kimlasca he meets and befriends the protagonist Luke while looking into thieving cheagles, later asking Luke for help because his uncle is Kimlasca's king.
Ion is an NPC character though and his role is mostly limited as a source for suggestions on things to do when their plans need consideration or are changed, a damsel to be rescued as he is kidnapped or captured several times for his powers or o prevent him from helping establish peace, and the aid the characters need to proceed because of his influence or his powers. Through the entire story, his main goal is to keep the piece and prevent the destruction of the world without regard for his life, to the point that he does give his life gaining vital information about a way to save the world. It should be noted that each time he is kidnapped he is absent from at least an hour's gameplay and often more.
(Apping Ion for just before he enters in canon to give chances to properly canon update since he only has two he'd reasonably do. A more complete history can be found here if needed.)
Character Personality: Ion is usually extremely docile, even seeming to be a little out of it at times...to the point that he is more often than not following rather than leading. He's kind, quiet, and very innocent, able to look through the negative qualities of a person and spot things others may miss like kindness or loneliness...unfortunately this doesn't work for the opposite and this combined with his trusting nature can land him in trouble. Naivete is not to be confused with stupidity though as even Jade Curtiss, one of the most intelligent and perceptive characters in the canon, has noted that Ion is very intelligent and has a tendency to at least seriously consider, if not just follow, his advice. Though he can and does keep secrets, one thing he doesn't do is lie.
Despite his position and high intelligence, Ion is not in any way arrogant or spoiled, instead being very modest and well-aware of most of his shortcomings. He knows his existence is a mask for his original's death and that the respect and influence he has is mostly due to the position he's filling...though he is unaware of or has a hard time accepting the fact that part of the reason he's so well-respected is due to how easily he normally gets along with people. At times he even doubts himself as being worthy of even holding his title. He is acutely aware of his physical weakness and tries not to let it slow others down, pushing his limits without protest as much as he can (or is allowed) and with little regard for himself when he feels there are more important things at stake. He has even been willing to try and go into danger with the intent of using his powers to protect others despite knowing fully what could happen to him even if he weren't injured. When he has caused others any sort of inconvenience he is quick to own up to it and apologize, as well as make amends where possible...this is also true of perceived trouble caused. He also seems to think himself easily replaceable as a person.
Due to the events throughout the game, Ion is somewhat desensitized to the deaths of people at the hands of other people. He's not insensitive to others who still react badly and understands the way that they feel. And he's not an advocate of killing, but he's come to realize that preventing more deaths sometimes results in death and the best thing that he can do and continue towards peace. But he also often feels responsible for the deaths of others even if he isn't directly responsible in any way and was only there, because he does feel as though he should be strong enough to do more even if he knows that he's not.
Although he's not usually reckless, Ion is not above going by himself to look into problems he feels that it's his responsibility to handle, sometimes without letting anyone else know what he's up to. Any true thoughtlessness he shows is extremely rare and is usually involving him trying to look out for someone else's well-being. There are also situations where he does something that should not be done because he couldn't see any harm in cooperating, even if he did have some misgivings about it being asked of him. Despite his mellow nature, Ion is quite capable of both standing up for himself and pushing his authority when he needs to, though this is the only time he'll do such a thing. His age, innocence, and frailty hide a strong will and general lack of fear...though the lack of fear is most likely at least partly due to lack of experience where that's concerned. He's been kidnapped multiple and attacked by monsters, but never been seriously hurt or in any true danger.
Patient and very tolerant of others, Ion is usually not all that vocal in a group, preferring to quietly enjoy company and only chiming into conversation occasionally. Compliments come very easily to him, whether he's noting a person's kindness or something else he likes about them them, though it's always something sincere. He's also able to tease his friends from time to time, such as when Anise was trying to get in good with Luke after the events on the Tartarus he jokingly recounted what actually happened when she fell with amusement, both because she was unharmed and had angrily screamed "I'll kill you bastards!" while falling. He's not been shown being angry, though he's shown to disapprove when others continue to press things there is little point in continuing on, especially when it's putting down a person who is trying to make amends...at least when that person is not him. Rather than scolding or putting people down, especially in times where he understands their situation or they seem too upset to see reason, Ion is one of very few who will persist in trying to calm and reason with him as long as he's allowed. He's also very forgiving of people who do wrong but whose overall intent is not evil, though he won't willing tolerate their behavior. In serious situations his speaking up is usually a time when others should listen since he has something important to say.
Ion does genuinely value his friends and the people he interacts with often and gets along with, the same way any normal person does. There aren't too many things he's not willing to do for their well-being if they're in his power. He cherishes these people far more than he does himself, and would willingly die to help them. But he also knows that even if he doesn't like it a far greater good can come from the sacrifice made by one of his friends and will give the guidance needed for it to happen.
Ion has a soft spot for cheagles, as they are intelligent monster sacred to the Order. He admittedly had no idea what they even looked like at first and did imagine that they were big regal creatures instead of adorable fuzzballs, but he wasn't really disappointed to learn the truth and still treats them with respect. He seems quite fond of Mieu, who travels in the group following the events in Cheagle Woods and he knows quite a lot about how cheagles live. It seems that that may be the only extra information he knows in detail that isn't directly needed as Fon Master somehow. This is implied by the fact that the cheagle elder they meet in the forest asks if ion is related to Yulia, who first made the pact with the cheagles, and mentioned after everything was settled that it was nice to see that the pact was still being honored two thousand years later. This implies that most of Ion's knowledge was researched due to his own interest because the Order doesn't actually deal with cheagles normally.
Most likely because he is such a young replica, created only about two years ago, he has no mannerisms, nervous twitches, or tendencies to gesture unless for a specific reason. Despite his young age, he is mentally and physically between 14 and 15 years old, but has no memories from before his creation. This fact means that he is not and cannot ever actually be the person he is a replica of. He does attempt to be Ion for the sake of his role, acting as he thinks a Fon Master should but not necessarily like the original Ion. He does share a little of his original and Sync's dislike for the world's complete reliance on the Score, but he doesn't seem to hate the Score itself or have any ill will towards the world at large the way the other two do. But this is likely largely because he didn't suffer the way they had. Instead he believes, and is later proved right, that the Score is only one possibility and therefore should be a tool for guidance as it's not set in stone. A noteworthy fact about his lack of self-worth is that this is a trait shared commonly by replicas who know that they're replicas, because they don't feel as though they belong since their value is often weighed based on closeness to the original or they're used as a means to an end and have no other purpose. Or because they feel that they're entire existence and life has been a lie regardless of the good they may have done or the people they've grown close to.
Powers and Abilities: As a replica of the Fon Master, Ion has a lot of abilities at his disposal...but only a few a known/mentioned/shown. Among these are the ability to read the Score, and the ability to break and create Daathic seals. He is fluent in Ancient Ispanian and has the ability to draw fonons from a person's body into his own. Because he is a Seventh Fonist, he is also able to use some healing artes.
Curse Slots: A seal placed on a person that allows the user to manipulate a person using their memories. It can't fully control a person though or make them react in a way that's unrelated to the memory. (e.g. When Sync used the Curse Slot to make Guy attack Luke, it would have failed if Guy hadn't ever been at the point where he'd hated Luke enough to kill him.) Ion can both use and remove a Curse Slot. The closer he is to the affected person, the stronger his control is.
Akashic Torment: Ion kneels and creates a glyph that spreads a set distance around him and releases a blast of energy that damages anything caught inside the glyph. Damage is also dealt as he's charging the energy directly after the glyph is made.
Because of his frailness, using any of his special abilities leaves him fatigued, though the level depends on which ability and what he did beforehand. Constant use could shorten his life, as could consistently pushing himself physically after use of those ablities. Should he die, the fonons that make up his body will separate and he'll disappear.

Hello, this is Ion.
I'm not entirely certain who I should ask this question, so I thought that maybe if I leave it open to everyone then someone might be able to give an answer. I'm trying to practice Bending my abilities back and I thought that it might be helpful if I also try to improve my healing abilities. So I was curious whether anyone else has similar healing powers and might be able to give some advice on how to proceed?
I don't really have anything to offer for your time at the moment, but maybe once I've improved I can do something in return to thank you.
Third Person:
A quiet moment to himself was needed, and Ion was actually grateful to return to his room now that things had settled down again. His first storm had been rather hectic and he was actually feeling a little frazzled. It was hard to imagine that this kind of thing was normal here.
Walking into his room, still undecorated, the replica laid on his bed and closed his eyes. But even as he tried to relax, his mind wandered against his wishes.
Nautilus. This city in this strange new world was giving him plenty to think about, lots to learn, and Bending to practice. In a way, he was learning to be himself, since his responsibilities as Fon Master were meaningless here...but he wasn't entirely comfortable with this revelation. If he wasn't Fon Master Ion then what good was he to anyone? And he could go home at anytime he knew, but things were peaceful and time didn't pass while he was here...and he'd been called here to protect the city, so could he really just leave for a responsibility that would wait for him over a reason as selfish as not being comfortable without his Fon Master role? And was it right to shirk his duties just because they would wait? On the same note was he even contributing anything for staying? He really wanted to ask someone about this, but he didn't know who he could.
Rolling onto his side, Ion stared out his window with frown. He was making friends here, something he'd only attributed to his status before was still happening here. He wanted to help those friends, but he didn't want to be a burden by needing to rely on their kindness more than he already was. He wasn't even being completely honest with them about himself. He hadn't lied, but he hadn't been able to bring himself to explain the reasons he needed the help that he did and it made him feel like a bad friend.
Laying down wasn't helping him in the slightest right now. Ion sighed and stood finally, deciding that maybe a bath was the better option. At least he could do that alone.
